We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our growing UK technology team. This role is ideal for a software or platform engineer who enjoys working across application development, cloud infrastructure, automation, and developer tooling. You will play a key role in building and supporting modern Python-based applications while helping development teams improve the way software is delivered, monitored, and maintained.
The successful candidate will be based within reasonable travelling distance of London, with occasional travel required to client and Talan offices.
The Role
As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting modern application platforms that enable engineering teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently and securely.

Working closely with software developers, architects, and delivery teams, you will help establish best practices around cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security, and application reliability. The role combines hands-on engineering with the opportunity to influence platform standards and development practices across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable application platforms and deployment environments.
- Support and enhance Python-based web applications and services.
- Work with modern front-end technologies, including React and Vite.
- Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines, automation, and developer tooling.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and observability solutions to improve system reliability and performance.
- Manage and optimise cloud infrastructure, containerised environments, and platform configurations.
- Ensure security and operational best practices are embedded throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop reusable patterns, self-service capabilities, and common platform standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, infrastructure, and deployment issues.
- Contribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong commercial experience developing and supporting Python web applications.
- Good understanding of modern front-end development tooling, particularly React and Vite.
- Experience with Azure cloud services and cloud-native application deployment.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised applications.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems administration and networking fundamentals.
- Knowledge of application security principles and secure software delivery practices.
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Experience with FastAPI or similar Python frameworks.
- Exposure to AWS alongside Azure.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
- Experience supporting data platforms, AI, or analytics workloads.
- Experience working within consulting, professional services, or client-facing environments.
