Platform Engineer
Developer Experience Team
London / Hybrid | Mid level
Help our engineers spend more time building great experiences for our restaurant teams and customers. As a mid-level Platform Engineer in our Developer Experience team, you’ll build the tools, automation and cloud foundations that make software easier to develop, deploy and run at Nando’s.
The role
You’ll own defined platform improvements from implementation through to release and ongoing support, with guidance from experienced colleagues when you need it. Working closely with engineering teams, you’ll turn everyday frustrations into practical, reusable solutions and help shape an internal platform that developers want to use.
What you will do
- Work with engineers to understand where development and deployment become difficult, and translate their feedback into useful platform improvements.
- Build and maintain infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform using Terraform and other infrastructure as code practices.
- Develop automation, APIs and self-service tools that reduce manual work and make common engineering tasks simpler.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, templates and standardised deployment patterns so teams can release changes safely and consistently.
- Build monitoring and observability into platform services, investigate issues and contribute to improvements in reliability.
- Write maintainable, tested code and clear documentation; contribute to reviews and share what you learn with the team.
- Collaborate with engineering, product and operations colleagues, and use developer feedback to improve the platform over time.

What you will bring
- Hands-on experience in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure or a software engineering role with significant automation work.
- Confidence writing code or scripts for tooling, automation or APIs in a language such as Bash, JavaScript or Go. Your problem-solving approach matters more than a particular language.
- Practical experience provisioning and operating resources on GCP, with an understanding of monitoring, scaling and troubleshooting cloud services.
- Experience using Terraform or a similar infrastructure as code tool to make changes repeatable, reviewable and maintainable.
- Experience building, maintaining or integrating CI/CD pipelines, and an understanding of how they support reliable software delivery.
- An understanding of observability and monitoring, using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or OpenTelemetry.
- The ability to take ownership of a defined piece of work, communicate progress clearly and ask for support when it is needed.
Useful additional experience
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or Cloud Run; security and secrets management, including tools such as Wiz; or internal developer platforms and self-service tooling. Exposure to measuring platform adoption and gathering user feedback would also be useful.
