Senior Platform Engineer – Risk Services & Calculation Infrastructure

📍 Location: London, Liverpool OR Glasgow – Hybrid

The Opportunity

Rathbones is looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to help build and develop the technology platform supporting its portfolio risk and investment analytics capabilities. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and delivering the backend infrastructure that powers complex financial calculations. You'll be responsible for building reliable APIs, calculation services, cloud-based compute capabilities and integrations with existing systems.

Working closely with quantitative developers and other engineers, you'll help turn portfolio data and analytical models into scalable, dependable production services. There will also be an opportunity to provide hands-on technical leadership across a small engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain backend services, APIs and calculation infrastructure using Python.
  • Develop cloud-based compute services supporting scheduled and on-demand calculation workloads.
  • Build and manage job orchestration, queues and containerised services.
  • Integrate portfolio data, calculation outputs and existing enterprise systems.
  • Develop reliable services with appropriate monitoring, logging, security and error handling.
  • Implement retry, recovery and fault-tolerance mechanisms for critical calculation processes.
  • Build and maintain deployment pipelines and automated testing processes.
  • Work closely with quantitative developers to integrate models into production-ready services.
  • Contribute to technical architecture, engineering standards and code reviews.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and leadership across the engineering team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
