Platform Engineer
Salary: up to £75,000
Location: South Manchester, 2 days onsite

We are looking for a Platform Engineer to help build and develop an Azure platform supporting data, analytics and AI across a global organisation. This is more than a traditional Azure infrastructure role. We are particularly interested in people who have experience working with data platforms, as well as strong Azure and platform engineering skills.
You will work closely with platform, data, engineering and analytics teams to build secure, scalable and reliable platforms that make it easier for the business to use its data effectively.
The role
- Build and improve an Azure Data and AI platform
- Use Terraform to develop secure and repeatable infrastructure
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
- Develop data engineering patterns covering ingestion, orchestration, transformation and validation
- Work with Azure data services and support the delivery of reliable data products
- Improve monitoring, observability, security and platform performance
- Look for opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency and cost
- Help establish engineering and deployment standards
- Work with data engineers, developers, infrastructure teams and wider stakeholders
- Mentor colleagues and share knowledge across the team

What we're looking for
- Strong experience in Azure platform engineering or cloud infrastructure
- Hands on experience with Terraform
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions
- Good understanding of data engineering and data platforms, including ingestion, orchestration, transformation and data quality
- Experience working with Azure data technologies
- Comfortable with SQL and scripting such as Python or Azure CLI
- Good understanding of cloud security, identity, networking and monitoring
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across different technical teams
The main thing we are looking for is someone who can bridge the gap between platform and data engineering. You should be comfortable building the Azure foundations while also understanding how data needs to move through the platform and ultimately be used for analytics and AI.
