Job Context

This is a full-time in office position at our Leeds Office, LS15 8ZB.

At Simpro Group (incorporating BigChange), we build software that powers field service management businesses around the globe. As a Platform Engineer and Database Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will sit at the intersection of core infrastructure, platform automation, and database reliability.

You will design, build, and maintain our platform infrastructure to guarantee high scalability, reliability, and performance. As our database expert, you will take full ownership of our SQL Server ecosystem—driving database resilience, architecture, migration strategies, and performance tuning—while collaborating with platform teams to automate infrastructure deployments via modern CI/CD pipelines.

What You’ll Do

  • Database Strategy & Lifecycle Management: Own the design, strategy, patching, and maintenance of all SQL Server environments. Lead SQL Server upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Infrastructure & Platform Operations: Maintain high platform availability and performance. Collaborate with platform teams to automate deployments using modern CI/CD tools and Internal Developer Platforms (Backstage).
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Provide advanced query optimization, index management, and technical leadership to development teams for database-related performance bottlenecks.
  • Automation & Scripting: Develop, enhance, and maintain database automation scripts using T-SQL, PowerShell, Python, or Bash to reduce toil and improve operational efficiency.
  • Security & Compliance: Manage change management processes, user access controls (RBAC), and security standards across database and platform environments.
  • System Architecture & Documentation: Contribute to technology evaluations, make architectural decisions, and maintain comprehensive documentation within our developer portal.
  • Incident Management & Reliability: Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on complex infrastructure issues and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to maintain system SLA/SLOs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
