PLATFORM & INFRASTRUCTURE SENIOR ENGINEER – SHEFFIELD

KEY POINTS

  • Salary up to £72,000
  • Sheffield based – 12-month fixed-term contract
  • Major migration from VMware / oVirt environments into Kubernetes
  • Kubernetes, Talos Linux, Cilium, rook-ceph, BGP, Rancher, Ansible & Terraform

ABOUT THE CLIENT

We’re supporting an established technology organisation in Sheffield as they embark on a major transformation of their infrastructure estate.

They’re moving away from traditional hypervisor-based environments towards a modern Kubernetes-native platform and are looking for an experienced Platform & Infrastructure Senior Engineer to play a pivotal, hands-on role in making that transition happen.

THE PLATFORM & INFRASTRUCTURE SENIOR ENGINEER ROLE:

This is a superb opportunity for someone who has spent plenty of time working with VMware, oVirt or similar virtualisation platforms but has since moved heavily into the Kubernetes world.

You’ll play a central role in migrating real production workloads from traditional virtualisation environments into Kubernetes, helping design and build infrastructure that is resilient, maintainable and genuinely production-ready.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

It’s a broad senior infrastructure position, so alongside the migration you’ll work across storage, networking, monitoring, cloud and automation. You’ll also contribute towards DR and HA planning, improve developer workflows, produce technical documentation and act as an escalation point for more complex infrastructure issues.

There’s plenty to get stuck into here, but Kubernetes is very much at the heart of the role.

PLATFORM & INFRASTRUCTURE SENIOR ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Strong commercial experience managing Kubernetes in production environments
  • Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management – building, upgrading and operating clusters
  • Experience migrating workloads from VMware, oVirt / RHV or similar hypervisor environments into Kubernetes
  • Strong Linux Systems Administration experience, ideally CentOS / RHEL
  • Infrastructure automation using Ansible and / or Terraform
  • Good understanding of networking, storage, HA and DR within production infrastructure
  • Experience with technologies such as Talos Linux, Cilium, rook-ceph, BGP and / or Rancher would be particularly useful
  • Wider exposure to AWS, monitoring / observability, Git and shell or Python scripting would be beneficial
