Platform Engineer – Enterprise Platforms

6-Month Initial Contract | Outside IR35 | London

I’m currently recruiting for a Platform Engineer to join the Enterprise Platforms / Core Engineering team of a leading UK media and entertainment organisation. The team is responsible for the development, operation and continuous improvement of the enterprise platforms used to host corporate applications across public cloud and hybrid environments. This is a broad Platform Engineering role covering AWS, Azure, GCP, Windows, Linux, infrastructure automation, Terraform, configuration management and enterprise platform operations.

You’ll help design, build, automate and operate the organisation’s enterprise platform estate.

Responsibilities

  • Provisioning, scaling and optimising infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Developing and maintaining infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation and ARM
  • Building internal automation and platform tooling
  • Developing automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash and other scripting/development languages
  • Managing and automating Windows Server and Linux environments
  • Supporting SQL Server workloads and enterprise application hosting
  • Managing AWS services including S3, FSx, EBS and WorkSpaces/AppStream
  • Developing configuration management solutions using tools such as Puppet
  • Maintaining monitoring and observability capabilities
  • Supporting enterprise backup and recovery platforms
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
  • Supporting production incidents, problem management and platform requests
  • Participating in platform lifecycle, release and change management
  • Working with application teams to define technical and non-functional requirements
  • Automating repetitive infrastructure and operational tasks to reduce manual effort
  • Supporting third parties and MSPs with complex technical issues
  • Identifying opportunities for infrastructure optimisation and cost reduction
  • Ensuring security, reliability and supportability are embedded into platform engineering

Essential Experience

We're looking for a strong Platform Engineer with experience across:

  • Building internal tools, frameworks or platform capabilities
  • Strong automation/development experience using Python, Go, PowerShell or similar
  • Advanced Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
  • Production experience with Kubernetes/EKS or comparable container platforms
  • Strong understanding of AWS-native architecture
  • Significant experience across cloud infrastructure and enterprise platforms
  • Strong Linux and/or Windows Server engineering experience
  • Infrastructure automation and configuration management
  • Production support and incident management

You'll need to be comfortable operating across both engineering and operational environments.

We're looking for someone who can build and automate platforms but also understands the importance of reliability, security, supportability and cost. You'll work closely with application teams, central technology teams, suppliers and non-technical stakeholders, so strong communication and stakeholder management skills are important.
