Caspian One is partnering with a top-tier financial institution on a major platform engineering initiative and is looking to hire experienced Senior Platform Engineers (Backend-Focused) to support the evolution of its internal developer platform.
This opportunity sits within a large, global engineering organisation, focused on improving developer experience, strengthening platform capabilities, and delivering scalable backend systems used by thousands of engineers across the bank.
Role Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services and APIs that underpin the internal developer platform
- Translate complex engineering problems into robust system designs and production-ready code
- Contribute to platform components supporting hybrid on-prem and cloud environments
- Improve reliability and observability across distributed systems
- Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, and platform teams to enhance performance, scalability, and engineering standards
- Provide technical leadership within a coding-first, engineering-led culture

Key Experience Required
- Strong hands-on backend engineering in Java, Node.js, or Python
- Proven experience building APIs and distributed systems at scale
- Solid understanding of HTTP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, gateways, and service mesh
- Exposure to containers, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tooling
- Ability to independently deliver system design, architectural decisions, and end-to-end solutions

Additional Context
- Platform Engineering / SRE / DevOps exposure is beneficial, but this is a coding-first role
- Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments is advantageous
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate within globally distributed teams
- Opportunity to influence engineering standards across a major organisation
Location & Working Pattern
- Sheffield-based
- Hybrid model (approximately 3 days onsite)
