Caspian One is partnering with a top-tier financial institution on a major platform engineering initiative and is looking to hire experienced Senior Platform Engineers (Backend-Focused) to support the evolution of its internal developer platform.

This opportunity sits within a large, global engineering organisation, focused on improving developer experience, strengthening platform capabilities, and delivering scalable backend systems used by thousands of engineers across the bank.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design and build backend services and APIs that underpin the internal developer platform
  • Translate complex engineering problems into robust system designs and production-ready code
  • Contribute to platform components supporting hybrid on-prem and cloud environments
  • Improve reliability and observability across distributed systems
  • Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, and platform teams to enhance performance, scalability, and engineering standards
  • Provide technical leadership within a coding-first, engineering-led culture

Key Experience Required

  • Strong hands-on backend engineering in Java, Node.js, or Python
  • Proven experience building APIs and distributed systems at scale
  • Solid understanding of HTTP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, gateways, and service mesh
  • Exposure to containers, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tooling
  • Ability to independently deliver system design, architectural decisions, and end-to-end solutions

Additional Context

  • Platform Engineering / SRE / DevOps exposure is beneficial, but this is a coding-first role
  • Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and ability to operate within globally distributed teams
  • Opportunity to influence engineering standards across a major organisation

Location & Working Pattern

  • Sheffield-based
  • Hybrid model (approximately 3 days onsite)
