Platform Engineer - Self-Service Data Platform
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Platform Engineer - Self-Service Data Platform based in United Kingdom.
As a Platform Engineer - Self-Service Data Platform, you will play a key role in designing and evolving the infrastructure that enables engineers and researchers to securely access, manage, and process large-scale datasets with minimal operational overhead. This hands-on position combines platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and software development to create scalable self-service capabilities that accelerate innovation. Working in a remote-first and highly collaborative environment, you will partner with engineering and research teams to build reliable, secure, and reusable platform services. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI and data-driven initiatives while shaping the foundations of a modern cloud-native platform.
Accountabilities
- Design, build, and maintain the self-service data platform, including storage architecture, access management, and lifecycle management for large-scale datasets.
- Develop reusable platform services and internal tooling that simplify data access, processing, and infrastructure management for engineering and research teams.
- Design and optimize cloud-based storage solutions using modern object storage technologies and data formats to support scalable workflows.
- Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives by developing and maintaining Terraform configurations, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes.
- Implement secure-by-design platform capabilities, including access controls, data classification, and least-privilege security practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify platform capabilities that should be standardized and productized for broader organizational use.
- Support scalable cloud infrastructure and continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and developer experience.
- Promote engineering best practices, automation, and platform standards that enable efficient, self-service operations across technical teams.

Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or related technical roles with strong ownership of production systems.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly Terraform, along with Kubernetes, Helm, and containerized environments.
- Strong understanding of modern cloud storage technologies, object stores, relational databases, and contemporary data formats such as Parquet, Delta, or Iceberg.
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Dagster, Airflow, Prefect, or similar technologies.
- Strong software engineering skills using Python or another programming language suitable for platform and data engineering.
- Experience implementing security best practices, including identity and access management, role-based permissions, and least-privilege principles.
- Product-oriented mindset with experience building self-service platforms that improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in remote, cross-functional environments.
- Experience with AWS cloud services is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of machine learning infrastructure, scientific data platforms, regulated industries, or open-source contributions is considered an advantage.
