Role: Platform Engineer

Location: Speke, Liverpool
Work Pattern: Hybrid
Salary: £55,000-£65,000

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join the technology team. This role will play a central part in managing and automating our hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure, working closely with the Technology Director, Development and IT & Systems teams to drive automation, reliability, and operational excellence across our technology estate.

Our infrastructure spans multiple cloud providers alongside on-premises environments, supporting a fast-growing, high-volume e-commerce platform. You'll champion Infrastructure as Code, develop robust CI/CD and deployment pipelines, establish comprehensive observability, and help drive the adoption of modern DevOps practices across the engineering organization.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence the future of our platform, improving infrastructure automation, deployment strategies, monitoring, security, and operational excellence whilst collaborating across Development, IT & Systems, and Data teams. You'll also contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and mentoring, helping to build a culture of continuous improvement.

What are we looking for?

The Essentials

  • 5+ years' commercial experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability, or Infrastructure Engineering role within hybrid cloud and on-premises environments
  • Extensive hands-on AWS experience including:
    • EC2
    • RDS
    • ECS
    • ElastiCache
    • S3
    • CloudFront
    • Route 53
    • Lambda
    • IAM
    • VPC Networking
    • WAF
  • Strong understanding of AWS billing models, cost allocation, and optimization
  • Experience provisioning infrastructure using CloudFormation, with Terraform or Pulumi experience beneficial
  • Experience with container orchestration using ECS and/or Kubernetes
  • Strong Docker experience, including image management and multi-stage builds
  • Experience with Cloudflare (or similar CDN, DNS, and edge security platforms)
  • Strong Linux administration experience (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL)
  • Excellent networking knowledge including:
    • DNS
    • Load balancing
    • VPNs
    • Firewalls
    • Subnets
    • NAT
    • VPC Peering
  • Strong Python skills for automation, cloud APIs, and DevSecOps tooling
  • Strong Bash/Shell scripting experience
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar
  • Experience implementing:
    • Blue-green deployments
    • Canary releases
    • Controlled rollout strategies
  • Strong Git and version control best practices
  • Experience with cloud security tooling including:
    • GuardDuty
    • Security Hub
    • Macie
    • Inspector
  • Experience with Snyk (or equivalent security scanning tools)
  • Strong understanding of IAM, secrets management, and network segmentation
  • Awareness of PCI-DSS within an e-commerce environment
  • Experience implementing monitoring and observability using tools such as:
    • New Relic
    • Grafana
    • Loki
    • CloudWatch
    • Prometheus
    • Datadog
  • Understanding of SRE principles including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and incident management
  • Experience with log aggregation platforms
  • Experience integrating monitoring and CI/CD tooling with Jira Service Management or similar platforms

  • Experience with Golang

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform
  • Windows Server administration (Domain Controllers, Hyper-V, Group Policy)
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Database administration across:
    • MySQL
    • MariaDB
    • PostgreSQL
    • SQL Server
  • Elasticsearch/OpenSearch experience
  • Experience managing Redis/ElastiCache clusters
  • Exposure to AI-driven operations tooling (AIOps, ChatOps, intelligent monitoring)
  • Experience within high-volume e-commerce environments
  • Mathematics or Computer Science degree (or equivalent experience)
