Platform Engineering Manager
Hybrid: Winchester or Worcester office (2 days per week) £75,000 – £77,000 | + Up to 10% Bonus | Industry Leading Benefits
We're excited to be recruiting for a Platform Engineering Manager to join a well-established insurance technology business, owning the vision and direction of a modern Azure-based platform used across the industry.
Think a technically strong, largely senior team, real influence over platform direction, and a role that's genuinely 70% people leadership, 30% hands-on, not another engineer, but the person who makes a good team great.
Joining as the leader of a close-knit Platform Engineering team, you'll take a team of 5–6 senior engineers who don't need managing in the traditional sense, they need direction, prioritisation, and someone to coach them through the next stage of their growth.

The Headlines
A senior leadership role with genuine technical credibility required, set across a modern Azure platform (AKS, Terraform, Azure DevOps), with platform-as-a-product thinking at its core.
You'll coach and develop the team, shape the platform roadmap, and have a direct say in the architecture decisions that matter.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading, coaching, and developing a team of 5–6 senior Platform Engineers
- Owning the vision, roadmap, and delivery of Open GI's internal Azure cloud platform
- Setting the technical bar and arbitrating architecture and design decisions
- Driving platform-as-a-product thinking, treating delivery teams as customers
- Owning production operation of platform services: SLOs, incident management, reliability
- Acting as the platform's advocate across engineering, security, and architecture

What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading and growing a team of senior engineers (5–6+)
- Deep, credible cloud engineering background in Azure and infrastructure-as-code
- Experience owning a platform, product, or service with real customer feedback loops
- Strong stakeholder and influencing skills across engineering, security, and architecture
- Experience owning production services, incident management, SLOs, reliability
- Familiarity with Team Topologies or similar platform engineering thinking (advantageous)
