Platform Migration Lead | Manchester | Hybrid, 3 days a week in the office
We’re looking for a Platform Migration Lead to take ownership of a major MuleSoft-to-Azure migration.
You’ll own the move from start to finish: the plan, the people, the suppliers and ultimately the outcome. You’ll lead a small team of integration engineers, manage the delivery partner carrying out the migration work and make sure everything continues running smoothly while the legacy platform is retired.
You won’t be shipping code every day, but you’ll be technical enough to read an Azure design, spot what’s wrong with it and unblock your team when needed.
What you’ll be doing
- Owning the MuleSoft-to-Azure migration from initial planning through to decommission
- Managing the MSP delivering the migration work. That means challenging estimates, spotting padding, holding them to dates and not simply accepting “it’s more complicated than we thought”
- Line managing 3 to 4 integration engineers, including hiring, appraisals, development plans and the occasional tricky performance conversation
- Reviewing designs and making the call on how things should be built, particularly around failure scenarios and what happens when one system in a chain falls over while others carry on
- Being the person the wider tech team and business come to when an integration breaks or a migration milestone slips

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we’re really looking for
This is the bit that matters, so we’ll be straight about it.
- You’ve held a supplier to account. You’ve managed an MSP or delivery partner through a migration or platform wind-down, pushed back on a quote or estimate and made it stick. You’ll be asked how you did it.
- You’ve properly line managed engineers. Not just mentoring or running one-to-ones. Appraisals, PDPs, hiring and performance issues have been yours.
- You can think about failure. If you’re sending data across several systems and one fails halfway through, you know how you’d approach it and can explain your thinking clearly.
- You know your way around Azure integration. APIM, Logic Apps, Function Apps and Service Bus. You don’t need to be committing code every day, but you should be able to talk through something you’ve personally built or owned and sanity-check someone else’s design.

Nice to have:
- MuleSoft Anypoint experience, particularly enough knowledge to run an existing environment safely while it’s being retired.
Who it won’t suit
If your career has mainly been design and governance without much evidence of working close to the build, or you’ve led technically but never owned the people side, this probably isn’t the one.
Equally, if you’re strong on the tools but have never had to challenge a supplier or delivery partner, that’s likely to be the gap.
The practical stuff
- Manchester, 3 days a week with the team
- Occasional travel to London
- Full UK right to work needed
- Competitive Salary
- Permanent position
- Real scope to shape how integration is run once the migration is complete
