Job Description

Salary Range:

  • Senior Engineer: £45,000 - £60,000
  • Principal Engineer: £54,000 - £70,000

Where this vacancy is being recruited across more than one grade, the successful candidate will be appointed to a specific assessed grade, and the applicable salary range will be that associated with the grade of appointment.

Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.

About the Company

We are a global high-tech company and one of the key players in Aerospace, Defence, and Security. Leonardo is a leader in Electronics and developing advanced multi-domain technological solutions (Air, Land, Sea, Space, and Cyber) for security within and beyond national borders.

As part of our strategic growth initiatives, we are looking for talented and motivated engineers to join our Platform Team, which is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our core development infrastructure that supports our diverse portfolio of aerospace and defence systems.

Your Impact

As a Platform Engineer you will help shape, build, and operate the infrastructure and services that underpin our engineering platform, from requirements and design through to deployment, support, and continuous improvement.

  • Take ownership of core development tools and infrastructure, including compute, container platforms, application hosting, and quality assurance systems.
  • Provide technical guidance, improve reliability, and help engineering teams adopt consistent best practices.
  • Use technologies such as cloud platforms, container orchestration, infrastructure as code, and automation to help deliver secure, scalable, and resilient services.
  • Investigate complex technical issues, improve observability, and reduce operational risk and manual effort.

We are a multidisciplinary team looking for candidates with a broad mix of skills and experience. You do not need to meet every requirement. What matters most is sound engineering judgement, adaptability, and the ability to make a meaningful contribution.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
