Role Description
MCL is seeking an experienced Platform Support & Installation Engineer primarily to support complex RF and electronic systems on UK maritime platforms. The role covers installation, integration, testing, fault diagnosis, repair and in-service support, along with the planning and coordination of deployments. The successful candidate will deputise for the project technical lead when required and undertake regular deployments from approximately 1-10 days to UK customer, dockyard and naval sites.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for naval communications sensing systems (CESM) and associated RF, electrical and electronic equipment on UK naval platforms.
- Undertake installation, integration, inspection, commissioning, functional testing and acceptance support for equipment and associated cabling, interfaces and ancillary systems.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment, modules, interface and system-level faults through repair, replacement, modification or escalation as appropriate.
- Undertake planned and reactive maintenance, post-design support and in-service sustainment at MCL and customer site locations.
- Plan and coordinate deployed support and installation activities, including resources, tooling, spares, risks, dependencies and reporting.
- Deputise for the project technical lead when needed, acting as a focal point for technical co-ordination, work allocation, stakeholder engagement and progress management.
- Produce, review and maintain clear engineering documentation, including installation instructions, test procedures, fault and repair reports, technical reports, configuration records, task briefings and technical evidence.
- Ensure work is conducted in accordance with approved procedures, configuration control, security requirements, quality processes and relevant electrical, RF, platform and workplace safety controls.
- Identify and manage technical, schedule, access and delivery risks, in addition to supporting non-conformance investigations and continuous improvement as required.
- Provide technical input to project planning, customer and supplier discussions, estimates, upgrades and other relevant MCL projects.
- Support other MCL projects when required, particularly where RF, electronic, maritime or platform-integration experience is relevant.
- Operate with Linux-based environments and support configuration, debugging, and command-line troubleshooting of software and hardware interfaces.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
