Company Description
Northbourne Youth Initiative is a neighbourhood-based project supporting children and young people aged 8–25 in Elswick and the West End of Newcastle. The organization offers a variety of opportunities to promote personal growth and social development. Activities include play sessions, camping trips, cooking classes, leisure activities, and accredited programs such as certificates and The Duke of Edinburgh Award. The initiative focuses on creating a safe, engaging environment where young people can build skills, confidence, and positive relationships. Team members work closely with the local community to provide inclusive, accessible support for all participants.
Role Description
The Play & Youth Worker will plan, deliver, and evaluate play and youth work sessions for children and young people aged 8–25. Day-to-day responsibilities include facilitating group activities, supporting individuals’ personal and social development, and promoting participation in programs such as cooking, camping, and accredited awards. The role involves building trusted relationships, providing guidance and mentoring, and ensuring that sessions are safe, inclusive, and engaging. The Play & Youth Worker will also assist with record-keeping, risk assessments, and communication with families, schools, and partner agencies as needed. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

- Candidates should possess skills in Youth Work and Youth Services, with experience delivering activities for children and young people.
- Candidates should possess skills in Social Work and Youth Mentoring, including supporting personal development and providing guidance.
- Candidates should possess strong Communication skills to engage effectively with young people, families, colleagues, and partner organizations.
- Relevant training or qualifications in youth work, play work, social care, or a related field are beneficial.
- Experience working in community or neighbourhood-based projects, and knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices, is an advantage.
- Ability to work flexibly, manage group dynamics, and create inclusive, engaging activities for diverse participants is desirable.
