Plumber

Location: Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, FK5 4EBSalary: £31,537 - £34,303 per annumSchedule: Full time. Permanent (36 hours per week)

  • Week 1: Monday–Thursday 8am–4pm, Friday 8am–2.30pm
  • Week 2: Monday 8am–2.30pm, Tuesday–Friday 8am–4pm

As a Plumber in our Estates and Facilities team, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring a busy acute hospital operates safely and efficiently. Your expertise will maintain essential water and plumbing systems, safeguarding patient care, infection control, and operational reliability.


About the Role

Working at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, you’ll: ✔ Maintain and upgrade plumbing infrastructure that directly supports clinical services ✔ Perform planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs to ensure regulatory compliance ✔ Help prevent waterborne risks, including legionella control, while supporting infection prevention protocols ✔ Collaborate with estates, contractors, and clinical teams to minimise disruptions during repairs


Key Responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Delivering planned preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment in line with statutory requirements
  • Carrying out reactive repairs, including:
    • Pipework and sanitaryware replacements
    • Valve inspections and servicing
  • Servicing and testing thermostatic mixing valves per NHS Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) guidelines
  • Supporting water safety initiatives, such as:
    • Temperature monitoring and recording
    • Flushing regimes
    • Legionella prevention protocols
  • Accurate digital documentation in the CAFM system for maintenance and compliance records
  • Ensuring minimal disruption to patient care through effective communication and planning with colleagues

Requirements

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • A completed plumbing apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3 (or equivalent) in Plumbing and Heating
  • Demonstrated experience in large-building or estate plumbing maintenance
  • Hands-on experience with thermostatic mixing valves
  • Knowledge of legionella control, water hygiene, and compliance regulations
  • Proficiency in using CAFM systems and completing digital maintenance records

Additionally, due to the nature of the role, you must: ✔ Enrol in the PVG Scheme (Paid Work Screening) ✔ Complete a health questionnaire to ensure you meet occupational requirements
