🔧 APPRENTICE PLUMBER WANTED — Russell Heating Ltd, Shefford
We're looking for a motivated apprentice to join our team and learn the trade from the ground up.
Russell Heating is a well-established plumbing, heating and renewables company based in Shefford, Bedfordshire. We work on everything from boiler installations and central heating to heat pumps and underfloor heating — across domestic and commercial sites in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and London.
What you'll learn:
- Plumbing and heating installations
- Boiler servicing and repairs (gas and oil)
- Heat pump and renewable systems
- Central heating and underfloor heating
- Working on real jobs from day one alongside experienced engineers
What we're looking for:
- Enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the trade
- Reliable and willing to learn
- Good attitude and strong work ethic
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Clean DBS check
- Full UK driving licence (or working towards one)

Job Description
Responsibilities:
Day-to-day responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing and heating systems for domestic and commercial clients, including central heating, boilers, pipework, and related equipment. The Plumber will diagnose faults, perform safety checks, carry out routine servicing, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and company standards. The role also involves responding to customer inquiries, providing clear explanations of work required, preparing quotes, and maintaining accurate records of jobs completed. The successful candidate will collaborate with the wider team to deliver efficient, high-quality service while upholding health and safety practices on-site.
Qualifications:
- Strong plumbing skills, including installation and repair of domestic and commercial systems.
- Proficiency working with pipes, fittings, and associated materials, with attention to safety and durability.
- Experience in maintenance and repair, including preventative maintenance and troubleshooting heating and plumbing issues.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, manage expectations, and represent the company professionally.
- Relevant trade qualifications or certifications in plumbing and heating (e.g., NVQ or equivalent), with Gas Safe registration highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of central heating systems, boilers, underfloor heating, and renewable technologies such as heat pumps and solar hot water (or willingness to be trained).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and instructions, and to complete job documentation accurately.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within London and the M25 area as needed.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills and reliability in meeting schedules.
