PMLD Teaching Assistant - SEN School
Location: Radcliffe, Greater Manchester
Contract: Temporary (Long-term)
Full Time: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: From £110 per day
Start Date: September 2026
Expected End Date: July 2027 (end of the academic year)
PMLD Teaching Assistant - Radcliffe
A specialist SEN school in Radcliffe is seeking a caring, patient and dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), alongside additional complex needs including physical disabilities, communication difficulties, sensory needs and medical needs.
The school provides a nurturing, highly supportive and structured environment where every pupil is encouraged to develop their independence, communication skills and confidence. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide personalised support and help pupils access learning and achieve their individual outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs.
- Supporting pupils with personal care, mobility, feeding and sensory needs where required.
- Assisting with the delivery of personalised learning activities and therapy programmes.
- Supporting communication development through approaches such as sensory activities, AAC, PECS, Makaton or other communication methods.
- Implementing EHCP targets, individual support plans and care plans.
- Supporting pupils with physical disabilities, medical needs and complex learning difficulties.
- Promoting independence, wellbeing and positive engagement throughout the school day.
- Supporting emotional regulation and creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, nurses, families and wider professionals.
- Observing, recording and reporting on pupil progress and individual needs.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, PMLD or complex needs.
- Be caring, compassionate and patient, with a strong understanding of individualised support.
- Be confident supporting pupils with personal care, sensory needs and physical disabilities.
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Be resilient, adaptable and committed to supporting pupils' development and independence.
- Have a positive and nurturing approach.
- Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability.

Desirable
- Experience working within a specialist SEN or PMLD setting.
- Level 2/3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health and Social Care, Childcare or an equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge of AAC, PECS, Makaton or sensory communication strategies.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex medical needs.
- Team Teach, MAPA or similar positive handling/de-escalation training.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS covering both the Child and Adult Workforce, satisfactory references, and full compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025 guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
