About The Role
Educato Limited is recruiting compassionate and dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistants to work within specialist SEND schools and provisions across Rochdale. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), helping them access a highly personalised curriculum while promoting their communication, independence, wellbeing, and overall development.
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals, you will provide tailored support to pupils with complex learning needs, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs.
- Support pupils with personal care, including feeding, toileting, changing, and moving and handling where required.
- Assist with mobility using appropriate equipment and follow individual care plans.
- Support pupils' communication using strategies such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, communication switches, or eye gaze technology where appropriate.
- Assist with sensory activities and therapeutic interventions to support learning and engagement.
- Implement EHCP targets and work closely with teachers and therapists to meet individual needs.
- Promote pupils' emotional wellbeing, independence, and social development.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress reviews.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, complex learning difficulties, or severe SEND.
- Be confident providing personal care with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Be calm, patient, resilient, and adaptable in a specialist education setting.
- Be able to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and professionals.
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work full-time.

Desirable
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification.
- Experience with moving and handling procedures.
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other alternative communication methods.
- Experience supporting pupils with epilepsy, gastrostomy feeding, or other complex medical needs.
- Team Teach, MAPA, or equivalent positive behaviour support training.
- Manual Handling and/or Paediatric First Aid qualifications.
