Purpose of the role
The PMMA Minor Civils Engineer will be responsible for carrying out minor civils works associated with the excavation, removal, installation, and replacement of ironwork across a variety of locations.
The role will involve working within domestic properties, footpaths, verges, highways, and carriageways. The successful candidate will be expected to complete all works safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while always representing Lanes Group professionally.

Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week
Salary
£44,000-45,500 per annum (depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Excavating around existing manhole covers, frames, and other associated ironwork.
- Removing defective, damaged, or failed ironwork.
- Installing and replacing new frames, covers, and associated ironwork to the required specification.
- Breaking out and reinstating concrete, asphalt, and other surrounding surfaces as required.
- Carrying out works within domestic properties, footpaths, highways, carriageways, and other operational environments.
- Ensuring excavations are appropriately protected and the working area is maintained safely throughout the works.
- Completing reinstatement works to the required standard.
- Maintaining good housekeeping and leaving the worksite clean, safe, and tidy following completion.
- Carrying out daily vehicle, plant, and equipment checks where required.
- Completing job records, photographs, and other required documentation accurately.
- Working closely with planners, supervisors, traffic management teams, and other operational personnel.

Health & Safety
Safety is a fundamental requirement of this role.
The PMMA Minor Civils Engineer will be required to:
- Wear the appropriate full PPE at all times while onsite.
- Follow all Lanes Group Health & Safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
- Comply with site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Ensure work areas are appropriately signed, guarded, and protected.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping throughout each job.
- Take responsibility for their own safety and consider the safety of colleagues, customers, and members of the public at all times.
Standards & Expectations
All PMMA Minor Civils Engineers are expected to represent Lanes Group professionally and maintain high standards of safety, workmanship, and behavior.
Employees must comply with Lanes Group policies and procedures at all times, follow reasonable management instructions, and ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and with minimum disruption to customers and members of the public.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a positive attitude towards safety, quality, productivity, and teamwork while delivering a consistently high standard of work.
Key Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Be comfortable working in a variety of environments including domestic properties, footpaths, and carriageways.
- Be physically capable of undertaking manual and practical work.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Have a strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Be reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Be able to follow instructions, job packs, RAMS, and company procedures.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and take pride in completed works.
- Hold a valid UK HGV driving licence where required for the position.

Desirable
- Street Works / NRSWA qualification.
- CAT & Genny / service avoidance training.
- Abrasive Wheels training.
- Previous experience replacing manhole covers and frames.
- Experience working within highways or utilities environments.
- Experience using breakers, disc cutters, compactors, and other associated minor civils equipment.
