PMO Manager
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a PMO Manager for a contract until 31/3/2027 on a rate of £500-£550/day (Inside IR35). This role will be hybrid working,
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Portfolio Management Office under the direction of the Head of PMO
- Implement and embed agreed portfolio governance, processes, standards and ways of working
- Coordinate portfolio reporting and assessment, ensuring information is complete, consistent and decision-useful
- Analyse portfolio information to identify risks, dependencies, capacity pressures, trends and issues requiring escalation
- Provide evidence, advice and constructive challenge to support portfolio prioritisation, sequencing and decision making
- Support proportionate application of portfolio, programme and project management methodologies, governance and assurance in line with the relevant standards and guidance.
- Lead agreed improvements to portfolio management capability, tools and processes as the function matures
Essential Skills:
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience
- Relevant professional experience in portfolio management and the operation of an enterprise Portfolio Management Office
- Significant experience working in, and managing or holding a senior role within, an enterprise Portfolio Management Office, covering multiple programmes and projects
- Strong understanding of portfolio management, including strategic alignment, prioritisation, sequencing, capacity, dependencies, risk, benefits, business cases, governance and assurance
- Experience of producing and interpreting portfolio-level reporting and analysis and providing clear, evidence-based advice and constructive challenge to stakeholders
- Demonstrable experience of developing or materially improving portfolio management capability, governance and processes, including embedding organisational change and new ways of working

- Relevant professional qualification or accreditation in portfolio, programme and project management methodologies and good practice such as MoP, MSP and PRINCE2 or equivalent
- Change management accreditation or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Practical experience of managing a programme or project through a significant part of its lifecycle, using recognised methodologies such as MSP, PRINCE2 or equivalent
- Experience of working within public sector project delivery and financial governance frameworks
- Experience of working in a developing or maturing Portfolio Management Office, including improving portfolio management systems, tools or data
- Experience of integrating portfolio management with strategy, business planning, finance or organisational resource planning
- Driving licence
