The Times and The Sunday Times
The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis on the UK and the world. We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.
Your role
As a Podcast Producer you’ll be responsible for pitching, shaping and delivering shows with the same scope, ambition and rigorous standards as the other journalism produced by The Times and The Sunday Times.
Working primarily on our flagship news show, The Story, this will involve cooperating with reporters, correspondents and section editors on both individual episodes and, potentially, multi-part series. You’ll be part of a small, supportive and successful team working sometimes unpredictable hours and under tight deadlines to meet the demands of that day’s story. At times, you may work on other of our slate of shows. You’ll have proven editorial judgement, experience of audio / multi-platform production, be a team player and have a desire to create innovative podcast content that grabs its audience’s attention by examining major stories in a new light.
Day to day you will
- Work with your Executive Producer and Senior Producers to execute the show’s strategy across seven days and multiple formats.
- Identify growth opportunities across platforms, formats, and audiences, aiming to surprise our existing audience and appeal to new audiences.
- Collaborate with other editorial, platform and marketing teams to align audience goals with broader brand objectives.
- Work creatively to produce podcast content for daily, weekly and serialized publication.
- Maintain the highest editorial and production standards, including liaison with our legal and compliance teams.
- Liaise with those teams working elsewhere within the papers and on other of our podcasts.
- Be part of consequential and complex editorial decision-making processes, often under pressure of a deadline and escalating these when necessary.
- Be part of the team’s continued evolution, including working on new formats, new ways to telling stories, bonus and afternoon editions and field production / reporting.
- Be committed to realising the best quality podcast content not just nationally but internationally.
- Work independently to manage your own work and generate a flow of fresh ideas for both new subjects and the treatment of subjects as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
