Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship - now open!
Bedfordshire Police are inviting applications for the role of Police Constable through the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.
The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship combines on the job learning with working towards a fully funded degree, all while earning a competitive salary and making a difference to East of England communities. You’ll be a police officer from the day you join - embarking on an exciting career like no other. The three-year degree apprenticeship course is completed with Anglia Ruskin university (ARU), and you get to complete this within dedicated protected learning time – incorporated into your working schedule in combination with operational working. Once the three years are complete and you have passed the degree programme you will graduate and be a fully ranked officer with a BSc (honours) level 6 degree in Professional policing practice with no student debt to repay.

Academic Qualifications
If you are successful in the police officer application process, you will then be asked to provide evidence of your academic qualifications for assessment by Anglia Ruskin University.

If these are not supplied when requested, this will either result in us being unable to continue with your application or delays to your progress.
For your application to meet the academic requirements, you will need to provide evidence of the following:
- GCSE Maths and English at a minimum of grade C or 4 (or equivalent qualification, such as level 2 functional skills in Maths and English)
- Applicants with passes in two A Levels (or equivalent) consisting of 32 UCAS points will automatically meet the academic entry requirements.
- Any other level 3 qualification (that equates to 32 UCAS points or more)
- Applicants with less than 32 UCAS points will be considered if they can provide evidence of at least one year’s employment in a role with comparable skills to policing or academic study. These applicants will be invited to a study skills review meeting, where an assessment will be made on their ability to meet the academic demands of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship. Applicants who pass the suitability discussion criteria will have met the university entry requirements.

Driving Licence
Applicants must hold a full manual driving licence, or a full automatic driving licence where required as an adjustment due to a disability at the time of application. This is a mandatory requirement for all Police Officers.

Commuting Requirements
At Bedfordshire Police, we are committed to supporting our workforce while ensuring we can meet the operational needs of the communities we serve. Our policy sets out a clear expectation that officers should live within one hour’s commute of either Bedfordshire Police Headquarters, Kempston, or Luton Police Station.
We recognise, however, that individual circumstances can vary. Where an officer or applicant lives beyond this one-hour commuting time, there is a formal process through which an exception can be requested. Please notify the recruitment team as soon as possible and any such request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will require sign-off through the appropriate approval route.
Eligibility for Becoming a Police Officer
Applicants will also have to meet the eligibility for becoming a police officer and pass the Police Online Recruit Assessment Centre. See the College of Policing website for more information.
Pre-Employment Checks
This role has been identified as high-risk in relation to potential DNA and fingerprint contamination within forensic processes. As such, successful candidates will be required to provide a DNA and fingerprint elimination sample as part of their pre-employment checks.
The sample will be used to conduct a speculative search against our database and then solely for contamination elimination purposes and held on a secure elimination database in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR.
Provision of this sample is a condition of employment for roles identified as high-risk.
