Position Objectives:
Police Officers for the City of Merrill are responsible for the protection of life and property, crime prevention and detection, enforcement of laws and ordinances, investigation of crimes, investigation of traffic accidents and traffic control, apprehension of those who violate laws, maintenance of order in the community as well as providing general assistance and services to the public.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma
- 60 college credits / Associate's degree
Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20

Officers granted lateral transfer benefits may be eligible to receive credit for up to 7 years of similar experience. This applies to pay grade and vacation benefits only.

In the next 10 years a significant number of the Department’s sworn officers will be within the retirement window. Salary & benefits: Salary is based on current contractual agreement. Contract salary range is $32.61 -$36.45 per hour, the best in Lincoln County! Benefits include paid vacation, health and life insurance, sick leave, annual clothing allowance, educational incentive, shift differential, Wisconsin Retirement System, holiday pay, and deferred compensation. Lateral Transfer: The Merrill Police Department is now providing lateral transfer opportunities for experienced officers seeking to relocate to the Merrill community. Credit for up to seven (7) years of similar full time experience may be granted for purposes of pay and vacation benefits.
Qualifications:
U. S. Citizen, minimum age 18, 21 preferred, eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board certification, high school diploma, 60 college credits, drivers license with a good driving record, good physical condition, ability to possess a firearm, no felony convictions, no domestic abuse convictions, good verbal and written communication skills, ability to work unconventional hours, weekends, and holidays, ability to perform essential functions of this position, ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment.
