The role

Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively, think you have what it takes to help us make a difference? This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Crime Department as a Police Staff Investigator (PIP2).

Make a difference in one of the most significant investigations in UK policing history. This is a unique opportunity to use your investigative skills and experience to support the UK's largest national investigation into previously closed cases of group-based child sexual exploitation and abuse. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will play a vital role in seeking justice for victims, identifying opportunities to progress investigations, and ensuring that every case is reviewed with professionalism, integrity and compassion.

As a Police Staff Investigator (PIP2), you will provide a professional and effective investigative service for victims, witnesses and communities affected by serious and complex crime. You will manage detailed investigations, develop high-quality evidential files and reports capable of withstanding court scrutiny, and contribute to achieving positive criminal justice outcomes. Your work will support major crime review standards, helping to deliver thorough, victim-focused investigations that make a real and lasting impact.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and manage investigative plans, identifying appropriate actions and methods to gather intelligence and secure evidential material.
  • Conduct interviews and obtain written, video and audio accounts from victims, witnesses and suspects, identifying opportunities to progress investigations and bring offenders to justice.
  • Carry out risk assessments for victims, witnesses, offenders and premises, identifying vulnerability and implementing measures to manage risk and safeguard those involved.
  • Work closely with partner agencies, including ISVA and CHISVA services, to provide victim-focused support in line with the Op Beaconport Victim and Survivor Strategy.
  • Prepare and maintain risk assessments, safety plans and trigger plans to protect vulnerable individuals and those involved in departmental investigations and operations.
  • Identify opportunities to disrupt criminal activity, working collaboratively with internal and external partners to reduce harm and solve problems.
  • Review, analyse and assess evidential material, preparing comprehensive reports and case files for submission to the CPS to support positive criminal justice outcomes.
  • Examine and evaluate digital evidence from electronic devices, securing and preserving material and producing exhibits and findings to support investigations and court proceedings.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
