Help shape the future of UK financial services

Are you curious about how government policy can support economic growth, innovation and consumers? Do you enjoy analysing complex issues, building relationships and influencing decision-making?

We are recruiting several Policy Advisers to join HM Treasury's Financial Services Group. These roles offer a unique opportunity to work on some of the most high-profile and fast-moving policy issues facing the UK today, from financial services strategy and regulation to payments, retail banking and fintech.

You do not need previous experience in financial services policy to apply. We are looking for people with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, sound judgement and a genuine interest in public policy. If you can quickly build knowledge, work collaboratively and thrive in a dynamic environment, we would love to hear from you.

About The Opportunities

Successful candidates will join one of several teams working at the heart of government's financial services agenda.

Financial Services Strategy

Help shape the government's strategic approach to financial services and support delivery of major Chancellor and Ministerial priorities. You'll work across HM Treasury, regulators, industry and wider government to coordinate high-profile programmes and contribute to policy development that supports growth across the UK.

Payments

Join a team working on the future of payments in the UK. From access to cash and payment regulation to emerging forms of digital money, you'll help develop policy that supports a trusted, innovative and world-leading payments ecosystem.

Retail Banking

Support policy that helps consumers and businesses access competitive and reliable banking services. You'll engage with partners across government, regulators and industry to help shape the future of retail banking in the UK.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
