Communities & Skills
Collaborative, open, inclusive and fair - we work with and through partners to ensure Londoners can shape healthy, empowered and productive lives. Communities and Skills is led by Executive Director, Tunde Olayinka and is comprised of the following units: Civil Society & Sport, Communities & Social Policy, Group Public Health Unit, Skills and Employment and Health, Children and Young Londoners.
About the Team
The Communities team works with communities, civil society organisations, funders and public sector partners to help make London a fairer, more connected and inclusive city. We develop and deliver programmes that support communities to thrive, strengthen civil society and increase opportunities for Londoners to participate in their communities.
You’ll join a team working across a varied portfolio, with opportunities to contribute to policy development, programme delivery and partnership work. The team works closely with colleagues across the GLA and with organisations across London, so you’ll have the opportunity to build a wide network and see how your work contributes to the Mayor’s priorities.
About the Role
As a Policy and Project Officer, you’ll help us develop and deliver projects that support London’s communities and civil society. You’ll work across a varied portfolio, including the Loved and Wanted Community Spaces programme, supporting work that strengthens social cohesion and tackles mis and disinformation.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with a wide range of organisations and partners, manage projects and budgets, develop policy and provide advice to senior colleagues. You’ll also contribute to work that responds to changing priorities and emerging issues affecting London’s communities.
This is a varied role where you’ll need to build strong relationships, manage competing priorities and turn policy ideas into effective programmes and projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
