About the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC)
The Betting and Gaming Council is the standards body for the betting and gaming industry and its members include betting shops, casinos and online betting and gaming companies.
Betting and gaming is a key part of the UK’s dynamic and diverse leisure and entertainment industry. The industry contributes over £4 billion in taxes to the UK Exchequer and provides work for over 110,000 people. As the single industry body, we work with our members, large and small, to raise standards, create a culture of safer gambling and build public and institutional trust in our world class industry.
Established in 2019, the BGC puts the customer first to drive standards over and above regulatory requirements to ensure a safer, fairer betting and gaming experience for all.
The opportunity: Policy and Research Executive
The BGC has built a strong and professional team delivering for our members and their strategic priorities. We are now seeking a Policy and Research Executive to join our Policy, Research and Insights team to help take our policy development work to the next level.
This is a key time for the industry, the successful candidate will play an important role in our response and development work, as the industry looks beyond the Gambling Act Review White Paper.
The role is full time, based in our offices in Westminster, with salary £35,000-£40,000 per annum dependent on experience.
About you
You must have either 1-2 years’ experience working in a policy or research related field, or minimum a 2:1 degree from a subject that requires working with data and carrying out research. You will be a confident communicator, both in person and in writing, with experience of working closely with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds.
You will be comfortable in analysing documents and publications, and formulating responses to consultations with tight deadlines. You will be able to critically analyse reports and provide succinct and accurate summaries for a range of stakeholders. You will also be a persuasive communicator and able to influence others in a positive way. You will have excellent organisational skills and be confident in handling multiple policy and technical projects simultaneously.

Knowledge of the betting and gaming industry is desirable. The willingness and ability to learn fast, and apply that learning to help the BGC achieve its objectives is essential.
Job Description
Job title: Policy and Research Executive
Reporting to: Director of Policy
Purpose of the job:
- To assist the Policy, Research and Insights (PRI) team in developing, delivering and engaging BGC members in the policy, research and regulatory affairs work of the Betting and Gaming Council;
- To assist the PRI team in developing BGC policies to drive standards over and above regulatory requirements to create a culture of safer gambling;
- To assist the PRI team in analysing and critiquing research published by a range of sources, supporting the BGC communications and public affairs team in their responses;
- To assist the PRI team in leading and delivering services to ensure that Government, Parliament, and the broader public gain more understanding and trust in our members.
Responsibilities:
- To assist and support the PRI team with designing, drafting, and delivering policies;
- To provide critical analysis of publications relevant to the industry;
- To work with members and external stakeholders to deliver on the BGC’s data repository work;
- To support the administration of BGC working groups, as needed, including supporting with the delivery of materials associated with the agenda. This will include documenting the minutes of these meetings where resourcing requires;
- To support the Head of Research and Insights in preparing research and insights briefs, for dissemination to both internal and external stakeholders;
- To assist in the preparation of papers for the various BGC committees, such as Research and Data Committee, Online Committee and Casino Committee;
- To act as a liaison point between members and the PRI team where needed;
- To act as the representative for the BGC on external working groups, and report back on those groups to the Director of Policy for consideration and decision-making;
- To assist and, as directed, lead on creating policy delivery plans and ensuring their implementation;
- To work closely with members and support the co-ordination of members’ responses to industry projects as required;
- As required and directed, work with external consultants and legal counsel to support BGC policy and regulatory affairs work;
- To assist BGC as a champion of change to create a culture of safer gambling through policies;

- Working knowledge of policy development process or experience in compliance would be an advantage but not essential;
- Working knowledge of in-depth data analysis and critiquing research methodology would be an advantage but not essential.
Salary: £35,000-£40,000 + 10% performance bonus
