Transport Focus Policy Officer

Location

London or Manchester

Salary

£33,494, subject to an expected c.3.5% pay increase

Contract

Permanent, Full-time

Working pattern

Hybrid – minimum two days per week in the office


Door 10 is working exclusively with Transport Focus to recruit a Policy Officer to join its policy team.


About Transport Focus

Transport Focus is the independent voice of Britain’s transport users. It uses evidence and insight to identify and challenge issues across the transport network, working with government, industry and other stakeholders to improve the experience of passengers and road users.


The role

Working closely with colleagues across Transport Focus, you will help develop clear and informed policy positions across different modes of transport.

Policy analysis

  • Monitor, analyse and distil relevant policy and regulatory developments across the transport sector
  • Work with colleagues to understand emerging issues and develop appropriate policy responses
  • Help produce Transport Focus policy documents and reports for publication
  • Develop draft policy positions on national, regional and local transport issues
  • Provide policy advice informed by the latest evidence, research and analysis
  • Build a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing transport and their impact on users

Stakeholder engagement and communications

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Help develop clear messaging around complex policy issues
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and presentations
  • Represent Transport Focus at relevant forums, panels and events
  • Work with colleagues to identify opportunities for further research and policy development
  • Collaborate with teams across the organisation to maximise the impact of Transport Focus’s policy work

Planning and project management

  • Support the planning, commissioning and delivery of Transport Focus’s policy programme
  • Deliver projects across different transport modes and themes
  • Manage competing priorities while responding to external policy and industry developments
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate transport policy into wider projects
  • Contribute to projects and workstreams beyond your immediate team where appropriate

About you

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable analysing complex information, developing recommendations and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience and understanding of policy development, including producing complex analysis and recommendations
  • The ability to quickly read, analyse and summarise large amounts of information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting and briefing
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Experience delivering multiple projects and managing competing priorities
  • The ability to think strategically, creatively and critically
  • An interest in transport and an appreciation of the challenges facing the sector
  • An inquisitive approach, with a willingness to challenge established thinking and explore new ideas
  • A positive approach to change and a willingness to contribute beyond your immediate remit

Salary and benefits

  • £33,494, subject to an expected c.3.5% pay increase
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Hybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week in either the London or Manchester office
  • 30 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Access to the Civil Service Pension Scheme, including Alpha, with a current employer contribution of 28.9%
