We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Pollution Control Team within the Place Directorate.
The team delivers a range of environmental protection functions, including the regulation of permitted industrial processes, air quality management, contaminated land, statutory nuisance investigations and responses to planning consultations.
About The Role
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting and regulating permitted industrial processes.
- Providing specialist advice on noise and pollution matters for planning applications.
- Investigating complaints relating to permitted processes.
- Working with businesses, residents and partner organisations to improve environmental outcomes.
There will also be opportunities to gain experience across a wider range of pollution control activities. We are committed to supporting your professional development and will provide training to help you broaden your skills and expertise.
About You
You will be a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer registered with either the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or the Environmental Health Practitioner Register (EHPR).

Essential Requirements
- Either a qualified Environmental Health Officer, registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board.
- Or other qualifications as defined in statute to carry out specific Environmental Health functions.
- Or a relevant qualification plus 2 years relevant post qualification experience.
Working for Sandwell
Sandwell Council operates a hybrid working model. Employees are required to work from an agreed workplace location within the borough for a minimum of three days per week, with flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week where service requirements allow.
Important Information
This role requires regular travel across the borough and attendance at Council sites and our partner contractor depot. A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential requirements of the post.
