Cheltenham College seeks to appoint a Portering and Security Officer
The Porters and Security Team are a small, dedicated team who are the front line of College’s response and are often the first point of contact with the pupils, staff, parents and public and are essential to the daily operation of College.
Post-holders will undertake a variety of vital roles for College, including:
- Setting up rooms for events
- The day-to-day physical security of the site
- Minor emergency maintenance/repair tasks
- Initial first aid/ first-aid response
Being part of the team would give a variety of work and an opportunity to play a key part in the College Community.
Hours
The rota operates on a six-week basis with an average of 40-hours week over the six-week period. Working shifts are Monday to Sunday and there are 3 core shift patterns (of 8.5 hours each) as follows:
- 0600-1430
- 0930-1800
- 1400-2230
These shifts will be scheduled on a rota basis. Please refer to the rota document and the job description for the available working patterns, though do note, weekly rotas are subject to change from time to time.

The salary
- Starting salary will be £27,227.00 per annum
- Moving to £28,018.00 per annum after passing on-the-job training and probation
Night Shifts
Portering and Security Officers work up to 11-night shifts per year to cover the annual leave of the Night Security Officers. When covering Night Security shifts an enhanced rate of pay will apply for each hour worked between the hours of 8pm to 6:30am (details in the job description).
Requirements
A full clean driving licence is required and experience of working in a school would be desirable.
