Portfolio Analyst
London (Office-Based)
£70,000 - £85,000 + Strong Bonus + Benefits
A leading global insurance business is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to join a high-performing analytics team focused on underwriting performance, portfolio optimisation, and strategic decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytically minded insurance professional with 2+ years of experience who wants to work directly alongside underwriting, pricing, claims, and actuarial teams while making a visible impact on business performance from day one.
The Role
You'll sit at the heart of the business, delivering portfolio insights that help shape underwriting strategy and drive profitability. Working across a diverse portfolio of specialty and commercial risks, you'll analyse performance trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and support data-driven decision making across the organisation. This role offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders and is well suited to someone looking to accelerate their career within portfolio management and insurance analytics.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyse portfolio performance across classes, segments, underwriting years, and distribution channels
- Develop and enhance portfolio monitoring and performance attribution frameworks
- Assess underwriting profitability and pricing adequacy
- Conduct large loss reviews and identify emerging portfolio trends
- Produce actionable insights to support underwriting and portfolio strategy
- Partner with underwriting, actuarial, pricing, and claims teams to improve decision making
- Support business planning, portfolio optimisation, and capital allocation initiatives
- Deliver clear and commercially focused analysis to senior stakeholders
Requirements
- 2+ years' experience within portfolio analytics, actuarial, pricing, underwriting analytics, or a similar insurance function
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of insurance performance metrics and underwriting drivers
- Experience handling large datasets and producing management insights
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
- Proficiency in Excel, with exposure to Python, SQL, Power BI, or similar tools beneficial
- Experience within commercial lines, specialty insurance, London Market, or reinsurance environments is advantageous
