About Us
Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need many more people to help us make our vision a reality.
Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £8 billion in renewable energy assets.
We are committed to delivering best-in-class responsible investment activity, offering like-minded investors the means and products to invest their capital sustainably. It is our ambition to change the entire energy lifecycle and make every green electron matter, delivering the best outcomes for customers, investors, the environment and society, accelerating the transition to net zero.
About the Role
We are seeking a Portfolio Associate to join the OEGEN Funds Team, reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager.
The role will work across OEGEN’s listed funds, semi-liquid strategies and private funds, supporting investments in renewable infrastructure and liquid investments.
You will support the Senior Portfolio Manager across the full fund-management cycle, including portfolio analysis, valuations, cash-flow forecasting, debt, FX, hedging, governance and investor reporting. You will also have a particular role in analysing allocations and underlying fund information across semi-liquid and liquid strategies, reviewing valuations and asset performance across private market investments, and supporting the Finance team with monthly NAV processes.
The role would suit someone with a strong finance, accounting or investment background who is analytical, organised and comfortable working across recurring processes and more judgement-led portfolio analysis. It offers the opportunity to develop broad fund-management experience across a varied set of OEGEN portfolios.
What You'll Do
- Portfolio management: Support the Senior Portfolio Manager with the day-to-day management of assigned portfolios, including monitoring investments, asset performance, fund KPIs, distributions, commitments, liquidity and investor returns. You will work with Asset Management, Investment, Finance and other teams to understand issues and ensure that actions are followed through.
- Valuations and financial modelling: Support monthly, quarterly and annual valuation processes, including updating and reviewing DCF, investment and fund models, analysing assumptions, preparing valuation bridges and sensitivities, and challenging outputs from internal teams, external valuers and underlying managers. You will prepare clear analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
- Cash flow, debt and hedging: Support cash-flow forecasting and analysis across the portfolios, including distributions, capital calls, liquidity, recycling and commitments. You will also help monitor debt structures, refinancing activity, managing covenants, hedging and other financial arrangements relevant to the funds, working closely with Finance and Investment teams.
- Allocation and underlying fund analysis: Support analysis of portfolio construction, asset allocation and investment exposures, including gathering and assessing information from underlying funds and managers. This will include helping to draw together performance and portfolio information from semi-liquid and liquid investments and turning it into useful fund-level analysis and reporting.
- Investor reporting: Lead or coordinate inputs into high-quality investor reports, factsheets, customer board materials, investor meetings and due diligence responses. You will help explain asset and portfolio performance, allocation, valuation movements, distributions, risks and outlook clearly and accurately for investors across the different fund types.
- Private fund NAV and reporting: Work with the Finance team to support monthly NAV processes for underlying private funds, including checking underlying information, reconciling movements and maintaining clear supporting evidence. You will also help oversee and report on asset performance, review valuation outputs and identify questions or inconsistencies for escalation.
- Risk and governance: Support the Senior Portfolio Manager in ensuring that funds are governed correctly and that information provided to Boards, customer boards, auditors and other governance forums is accurate. You will monitor risks including underperformance, valuation movements, liquidity, debt covenants, mandate constraints and material data gaps, escalating issues promptly.
- Process improvement: Maintain accurate fund-level information for NAV, AUM, returns, distributions, commitments and track record, and look for practical improvements to reporting, controls, data collection and automation. You will help ensure that processes are documented, deadlines are managed and outputs are consistent and auditable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
