Liz Bell Consulting provides data-driven, strategic, and dependable CFO services that help founders understand their numbers, increase business value, and prepare for strong exits. The firm also runs the UK’s leading free CFO community, connecting 130+ experienced CFOs with founders, strategic buyers, and top-tier UK private equity. Core areas of focus include exit readiness, business valuations, strategic finance leadership, fractional CFO support, and M&A advisory. Membership in the community is free and includes access to resources, insights, and a collaborative peer network. Founded by Liz Bell and co-team partner Paul Howarth, the firm brings deep expertise across exits, valuations, procurement, and fractional finance leadership.

Role Description

The Portfolio CFO role is a full-time, remote position responsible for providing strategic and operational finance leadership across multiple client businesses. Day-to-day work includes:

The Portfolio CFO will:

  • Build and refine financial models
  • Support valuation and exit readiness projects
  • Contribute to M&A advisory and fundraising initiatives where relevant

The role also involves:

  • Collaborating with founders to improve financial performance, cash flow management, and value creation
  • Maintaining strong stakeholder communication

Participation in the wider CFO community, sharing insights and best practices, is encouraged as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Strong finance and financial planning skills, including experience developing budgets, forecasts, and strategic financial models.
  • Proficiency in preparing, interpreting, and reviewing financial statements, with a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and compliance.
  • Experience in financial reporting, including management reports, dashboards, and board-level presentations.
  • Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Proven experience as a CFO, Portfolio CFO, Finance Director, or similar senior finance role, ideally within growth-focused or founder-led businesses.
  • Background in exit readiness, valuations, M&A, or private equity environments is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance audiences.
  • Comfort working remotely across multiple clients, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) are preferred but not mandatory with strong demonstrable experience.
