Role summary:

Works independently on most assignments and under the direction of more senior staff on only the most complex projects, analyses, and tasks. Responsible for ensuring guidelines are comprehensively interpreted and set up appropriately to ensure adherence to strict risk controls for Funds / client accounts. Collaborates with Global Investment Control teams and other business groups. Participates in departmental projects, including process engineering initiatives. Data analytics, derivative, and fixed income knowledge is a plus.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

Guideline Analysis

  • Demonstrates accumulated knowledge and experience from prior roles.
  • Reviews and analyzes Fund and client guidelines.
  • Participates in account onboarding activities and collaborates with rule coders to implement controls in the compliance system.
  • Ensures timely and accurate account launches and amendments.
  • Serves as a guideline resource to the team and other departments.

Investment Guidelines:

  • Examines client agreements, guidelines, and external regulations to identify and interpret investment restrictions.
  • Recommends and implements guidelines for multi-asset client accounts, ensuring robust control measures are in place.

Fund-Related Activities:

  • Participates in fund-related activities and initiatives, including prospectus changes and new fund launches across multiple lines of businesses.

Mandate Objectives:

  • Works with the Investment Group to understand investment objectives and determine guidelines.

Legal and Client Services Liaison:

  • Drafts, reviews, and interprets guidelines, and participates in guideline negotiations for client accounts in collaboration with Legal and Marketing groups.
  • Partners with Legal on the appropriateness of security offerings and complex transactions for client accounts.

Compliance System:

  • Navigates the CRD compliance system with ease and understands rule coding basics.

Policy Development:

  • Leads the development and enhancement of policies, procedures, and controls.

Risk Management:

  • May perform quality checks and verifies the accuracy of work prepared by other associates.
  • Identifies and assesses impacts and communicates updates to managers and stakeholders.

Training and Reference Materials:

  • Participates in the training of other associates.
  • Ensures reference and training materials are kept current.

Workflow Management:

  • Oversees workflow allocation and delivery to ensure timely task completion through good judgment and decision-making.

Projects and Initiatives:

  • Participates in projects and team/department initiatives.
  • Collaborates with management to establish project plans.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Skills of the Future

  • Applies AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency in guideline interpretation, documentation, analysis, and operational workflows while maintaining appropriate governance and oversight.
  • Evaluates AI-generated outputs for accuracy, completeness, and relevance before implementation.
  • Identifies and champions practical AI use cases that enhance productivity and decision-making.

Automation:

  • Identifies repetitive, manual activities and develops scalable automation solutions to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Supports the implementation and adoption of workflow automation, controls, and testing capabilities.

Improve Processes:

  • Designs and implements process improvements that enhance service quality, reduce operational risk, and support business scalability.
  • Works with stakeholders and technology teams to identify opportunities where data, automation, or system enhancements can improve business outcomes.
  • Defines requirements, evaluates solution options, and supports the implementation of technology-driven improvements.

Skills/qualifications:

  • Enables the investment process through compliance excellence.
  • Delivers innovative solutions aligned to the evolving needs of client portfolios.
  • Self-driven to understand how and why things work, the financial industry, and the connections between processes and technology.
  • Possesses working knowledge of Portfolio Guideline Analysis functions, policies, procedures, and systems, and applies that knowledge to work assignments.
  • Has a working knowledge of the functionalities and operational intersections of Global Investment Control and Capital Group.
  • Applies security knowledge as it relates to Capital’s portfolio strategies, investment processes and compliance controls.
  • Communicates effectively, both in writing and orally, with a diverse group of associates, senior business leaders, and the Investment Group.
  • Understands the needs of our clients and handles requests with CG's investment philosophy in mind.
  • Works collaboratively in a global operating environment.
  • Codes rules in our compliance system, properly utilizing established rule coding conventions.
  • Analyses data extracted from various CG systems.
