The Portfolio Lead – Professional Experience

The Portfolio Lead – Professional Experience will lead the day-to-day development, delivery, and continuous enhancement of the University's Professional Experience Year (PEY), ensuring students are exceptionally well prepared for professional practice and graduate employment.

The postholder will combine expertise in employability, careers education, and work-integrated learning with strong programme leadership to create an outstanding educational experience that integrates professional skills development, workplace learning, and academic success. Working in partnership with Student Futures, other University colleagues, and the Dean of Continuing Education, the Portfolio Lead will ensure that the Professional Experience Year provides a high-quality, employer-informed learning experience that enhances student outcomes and graduate success.

Working across academic schools, professional services, and external partners, the Portfolio Lead will provide operational and curriculum leadership for the Professional Experience Year, leading curriculum implementation, day-to-day employer engagement, academic quality monitoring, and operational delivery, and supporting the Dean in the continued strategic evolution of the programme.

Student Employability & Professional Practice

  • Lead the School's employability curriculum and professional practice provision through the Professional Experience Year.
  • Ensure students are effectively prepared to secure, undertake, and reflect upon professional experience opportunities.
  • Embed career development learning, professional skills, and reflective practice throughout the student journey.
  • Monitor student engagement, progression, and employability outcomes, implementing agreed interventions where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Futures and other University colleagues to ensure a coherent employability and professional practice offer for Professional Experience Year students.

Curriculum Leadership

  • Lead the day-to-day development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the University's Professional Experience Year (PEY) curriculum.
  • Design and continuously enhance an employability curriculum by translating approved programme and module specifications into engaging learning experiences.
  • Ensure curriculum design reflects current best practice in careers education, employability, and work-integrated learning.
  • Contribute to curriculum review and enhancement in response to student, employer, and sector feedback.
