About the role:
As a Portfolio Manager at NFU Mutual, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering strategic change across the organisation. Leading a team of Project Management professionals, you’ll oversee the planning and execution of a sub-portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with business priorities and the wider Enterprise Change Portfolio. This is a high-impact leadership role that blends strategic oversight with hands-on delivery, enabling you to shape outcomes that matter.
In this role, you’ll:
- Provide strategic oversight and guidance across a sub-portfolio of projects, ensuring successful delivery to time, cost, and quality.
- Lead impact assessments and produce recommendations to maintain portfolio attractiveness, affordability, and achievability.
- Manage sub-portfolio finances and resources, balancing priorities and reallocating budgets to optimise delivery.
- Foster a ‘one-team’ approach, working closely with stakeholders to manage risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Ensure governance and reporting are robust and aligned with NFU Mutual’s Change Framework and Risk Policy.
- Champion knowledge sharing and continuous improvement through Communities of Practice.
- Act as an escalation point and coach for project teams, supporting their development and fostering a culture of empowerment.
- Lead and inspire your team, driving talent management, succession planning, and career development within Group Change.

About you:
You’re an experienced portfolio leader with a track record of leading strategic business and technology change. You bring a strategic mindset, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence at all levels. Your skills will include:
- Change delivery and enterprise portfolio management expertise.
- Proficient in planning, monitoring, and control techniques.
- Skilled in applying various delivery methodologies.
- Experienced in change deployment and sequencing projects for impact.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in resource and budget allocation.
- Inspirational team leadership and coaching.
- Effective stakeholder influence, including executive-level engagement and reporting.
- Relationship building across internal and external partners.
- Strategic thinking and decision-making.
- Commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Relevant portfolio, programme or project management qualifications would be advantageous, although equivalent experience is also valued.
- Management of Portfolios Practitioner – Essential (or willingness to work towards)
- APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) – Desirable
- Managing Successful Programmes / APM PPQ or equivalent – Desirable
- Management of Value Practitioner – Desirable
