Portfolio Manager – Systematic Trading

We are partnering with a leading quantitative hedge fund seeking a Portfolio Manager to develop, manage, and scale a systematic trading strategy with full ownership of their portfolio and risk.

The role is focused on senior investors who have already demonstrated the ability to build and manage their own book under their own risk, with a proven track record of generating meaningful live PnL. The successful candidate will have significant autonomy to develop their strategy, identify new sources of alpha, and build out the infrastructure and team required to scale the business.

You will work closely with the firm's senior trading leadership while operating with a high degree of independence and ownership across strategy development, portfolio construction, risk management, execution, and PnL generation.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven track record as a Portfolio Manager or senior systematic trader with ownership of an independent trading book
  • Demonstrable history of generating meaningful live PnL from systematic trading strategies
  • Experience independently developing, deploying, and managing strategies from idea generation through live trading
  • Strong quantitative and statistical background, with expertise in alpha generation, signal development, portfolio construction, and systematic investing
  • Deep understanding of risk management, position sizing, drawdown management, and portfolio optimization
  • Experience across one or more major asset classes, including equities, futures, FX, fixed income, commodities, options, or other derivatives
  • Strong understanding of market microstructure, execution, transaction costs, and electronic trading
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++, with the ability to conduct research and work effectively with quantitative researchers and engineers
  • Experience working with large-scale market data and sophisticated research, simulation, and backtesting frameworks
  • Ability to evaluate and continuously improve live strategies based on PnL, risk, market conditions, and changing market dynamics
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Ability to build upon an existing platform while developing new strategies, research directions, and sources of alpha
  • Ideally, experience building or scaling a strategy vertical and/or developing a team around an investment strategy

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
