About the Role
An international banking institution is seeking an AVP-level Portfolio Manager to manage a portfolio of leveraged corporate borrowers and selected sponsor-backed transactions across Europe. The role offers a unique blend of credit analysis, portfolio management, transaction support, and commercial exposure across leveraged finance and broader banking products.
Client Details
Our client is a leading international bank with a well-established leveraged finance platform supporting large corporate and sponsor-backed clients across Europe.
Description
The role is a unique hybrid role, combining traditional leveraged finance portfolio management with broader corporate banking exposure. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of large-cap leveraged credits while also overseeing ancillary facilities including derivatives, trade finance, working capital, and other banking products.
Whilst there is some exposure to traditional sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions, this is not a pure execution role. It would suit someone who enjoys credit analysis, portfolio management, stakeholder engagement, and managing complex banking relationships across multiple products.
You will be sitting within a Leveraged Finance team, combining traditional credit and risk management responsibilities with transaction support and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a portfolio of leveraged corporate borrowers and selected sponsor-backed leveraged finance exposures.
- Performing ongoing credit analysis, financial statement review, and cash flow assessment.
- Preparing credit papers, portfolio reviews, and internal recommendations.
- Monitoring borrower performance and identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
- Supporting refinancings, amendments, waivers, and incremental financing opportunities.
- Working alongside Origination and Coverage teams on capital deployment and portfolio growth initiatives.
- Managing exposures across a range of banking products including leveraged loans, revolving credit facilities, trade finance, letters of credit, derivatives, deposits, and working capital facilities.
- Coordinating with Product, Operations, Credit, and other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth portfolio management and transaction execution.
- Supporting the maintenance of relationships with borrowers, sponsors, and key internal stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
