Portfolio Marketing Manager

Job Description

PerkinElmer is seeking a Portfolio Marketing Manager — Team Leader to lead a team of four Portfolio Marketing Managers who collectively deliver the product line marketing content, campaign execution, product launch support, and field enablement across the Analytical Instruments portfolio. This is PerkinElmer's first dedicated portfolio marketing team leader role — a position created to provide the team with day-to-day management, quality oversight, and cross-product-line coordination that has previously been absorbed by more senior marketing leaders.

The Team Leader owns the team's operating model: how work is prioritised, how quality is assessed, how cross-product-line consistency is maintained, and how each Portfolio Marketing Manager is developing professionally. They are responsible for the team's output — not just their own — and are accountable for ensuring that every product line receives consistent, high-quality commercial content and campaign support.

This role requires both people leadership capability and hands-on marketing communications expertise. The Team Leader must be credible enough to review and improve their team's work, coach them through complex creative and commercial challenges, and represent the Portfolio Marketing function to the VP Marketing with confidence and operational transparency.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Line-manage a team of four Portfolio Marketing Managers — conducting regular 1:1s, setting performance objectives, providing developmental feedback, and managing workload and priorities across the team
  • Review and approve significant team outputs before publication or distribution — ensuring content meets the dual standard of technical accuracy and commercial effectiveness
  • Manage the team's capacity: allocating requests across Portfolio Marketing Managers, flagging bandwidth constraints to the VP, and making trade-off decisions when demand exceeds supply
  • Identify skills gaps across the team and build development plans that address them — coaching individuals in copywriting, campaign strategy, digital marketing, or project management as required
  • Recruit and onboard Portfolio Marketing Managers as the team scales or as attrition requires

Content Quality & Brand Standards

  • Maintain and enforce the PerkinElmer Analytical Instruments content and brand standards across all portfolio marketing output — ensuring visual identity, tone of voice, and messaging hierarchy are consistent across product lines
  • Establish and maintain content production processes: briefing templates, review workflows, approval chains, and version control practices that reduce rework and improve cycle time
  • Own the content quality bar — setting explicit standards for what 'good' looks like across different content types (product brochures, application notes, email campaigns, social media, event materials) and holding the team accountable to those standards
  • Manage relationships with external creative agencies, copywriters, and production vendors — briefing, reviewing, and approving work to ensure quality and value for money

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Campaign, Launch & Enablement Standards

  • Set the team's campaign operating model, e.g. standard planning templates, channel playbooks, and performance reporting formats, so demand generation campaigns are briefed, deployed, and measured the same way in every product line
  • Define the standard set of commercial marketing deliverables required at each product launch, with quality gates and lead times agreed with the NPI and Strategic PM community; ensuring every launch receives equivalent support regardless of product line, and reviewing readiness ahead of each launch milestone
  • Establish a consistent enablement model for the Regional Commercial Marketing Managers and the sales organization, e.g., a single current asset library, published turnaround expectations for field content requests, and a triage process for bespoke requests that protects planned work
  • Set and monitor the team's campaign performance standards, e.g., aligning the metrics that matter (pipeline contribution, engagement, event attendance), reviewing results with the team, and feeding what works back into the standard playbooks

Cross-Product-Line Coordination

  • Coordinate content and campaign activity across the four product lines — ensuring shared launches, portfolio campaigns, and corporate content initiatives are managed without duplicating effort or creating message conflicts
  • Maintain the team's campaign and content calendar — providing visibility to the Sr. Director, VP Marketing, and product line stakeholders on what is in production and when it will deliver
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for Portfolio Marketing Managers when product line stakeholders have conflicting priorities or urgent requests that require management-level judgment

Own Contribution

  • Continue to carry a personal portfolio of content and campaign work for an assigned product line — modelling the standards and output expected of the team while maintaining hands-on marketing communications capability
  • Own high-complexity or high-visibility content deliverables that benefit from the most senior portfolio marketing expertise: flagship launch campaigns, executive presentations, or cross-portfolio campaign frameworks

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • 8+ years of experience in B2B marketing communications, product marketing, or content marketing — ideally in an analytical instruments, scientific tools, life sciences, or industrial technology business
  • Demonstrated first-line people management experience: setting objectives, managing performance, developing direct reports, and making workload decisions in a team of 3+ people
  • Strong portfolio of B2B marketing communications work: product launch campaigns, application content, demand generation, and digital marketing — with demonstrated commercial impact
  • Excellent written communication skills in English, with the ability to write and edit to a high standard across multiple content types and technical complexity levels
  • Experience managing external creative agencies and production vendors — briefing, reviewing, and holding vendors accountable to quality and timeline commitments
  • Organised, process-oriented, and able to manage multiple concurrent projects across a team without dropping quality or deadline commitments

Preferred

  • Scientific background (BSc or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or a related discipline) giving the Team Leader credibility when reviewing technically complex content
  • Experience in analytical instrumentation or life sciences marketing — familiarity with the technical vocabulary, customer personas, and commercial dynamics of the sector
  • Proficiency with marketing automation platforms (HubSpot, Marketo, or equivalent) and content management systems used in a commercial marketing environment
  • Track record of improving a team's output quality and throughput through process improvement, better briefing standards, or creative workflow optimisation
