Portfolio Officer

Do you enjoy getting beneath the data, challenging what you see and turning information into meaningful insight? We're looking for a Portfolio Officer to help us maintain a clear and accurate view of change across Midland Heart.

About The Role

This role goes beyond portfolio administration. You'll monitor and analyse information from across projects and change initiatives, quality assure what is being reported and provide constructive challenge where information or controls don't meet agreed requirements.

You'll help identify trends, emerging concerns and dependencies and provide the insight needed to support portfolio planning, prioritisation and decision-making.

What will you be doing?

As Portfolio Officer, you will:

  • Coordinate portfolio reporting cycles constructively challenging gaps, inconsistencies or areas of concern in project and change information.
  • Review and quality assure delivery information, including RAG assessments, risks, issues, finances and benefits.
  • Produce portfolio reports, dashboards and insight that support effective decision making.
  • Analyse information to identify trends, recurring themes, exceptions and emerging concerns.
  • Monitor milestones, scope changes, risks, issues and dependencies across the portfolio.
  • Review resource, financial and benefits information and highlight pressures or exceptions requiring further attention.
  • Support portfolio assurance and review activity, identifying gaps, exceptions and areas requiring follow up or escalation.
  • Work with Project and Portfolio Delivery Managers to strengthen the quality and consistency of delivery information and controls.

What will help you succeed?

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • A recognised project or portfolio management qualification, such as APM PFQ, PRINCE2 Foundation or MoP Foundation, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to turn detailed information into useful insight.
  • Confidence questioning information and professionally challenging gaps or inconsistencies.
  • Good digital and data literacy, including experience using reporting and project/portfolio systems.
  • An organised approach and the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines accurately.
  • An improvement mindset and an interest in strengthening reporting, controls and ways of working.

Our ideal candidate?

Your CV should clearly demonstrate:

  • Practical experience working in project delivery, project controls, portfolio management or a PMO/Portfolio Office environment.
  • Evidence of producing management reporting, dashboards or portfolio information using data from multiple sources.
  • Experience of monitoring delivery across multiple projects or change initiatives, including milestones, risks, issues or dependencies.
  • Evidence of reviewing or quality-assuring project/change information and identifying gaps, inconsistencies or areas requiring attention.

This role is based at our Bath Row office in Central Birmingham, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option to work the remaining days from home.
