The Role
Seeking an experienced POS Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for POS testing, automation engineering, and retail technology transformation across large-scale retail environments. The role will be instrumental in driving Emerald POS modernization, enhancing checkout platforms, integrating retail peripherals, and advancing automation and platform engineering capabilities. The successful candidate will lead innovation initiatives, ensure scalable solution delivery, and support the evolution of next-generation retail checkout systems.
Your responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and successful delivery of POS solutions across supermarkets, convenience stores, self-checkout environments, and petrol forecourt operations.
- Drive the modernization of retail checkout platforms by transforming legacy POS systems into scalable, containerized, and microservices-based solutions.
- Partner with business stakeholders, solution architects, vendors, and engineering teams to translate business objectives into robust and future-ready technology solutions.
- Oversee the integration of POS peripherals, including scanners, printers, scales, payment devices, and other in-store hardware components.
- Champion the adoption of AI-driven quality engineering practices through automation frameworks, emulators, intelligent testing, and robotic validation solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to project teams while serving as the primary escalation point for complex POS-related initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with platform, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to ensure seamless deployments, operational readiness, and high service reliability.

Essential skills/knowledge/experience
- Strong expertise in NCR Voyix and Emerald POS platforms, with proven experience in retail POS implementation, modernization, and support.
- In-depth knowledge of Self-Checkout (SCO) solutions and retail checkout technologies across large-scale store environments.
- Hands-on experience in Store Controller operations, POS peripheral integration, and device management.
- Proficiency in code quality and continuous improvement practices using tools such as SonarQube.
- Strong experience in developing and maintaining test automation solutions using Selenium Grid and Cucumber BDD frameworks.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI-powered quality engineering and intelligent test automation methodologies.
- Solid understanding of POS emulation technologies, hardware abstraction layers, device virtualization, and retail systems testing.
- Proven ability to design and implement scalable automation frameworks that enhance delivery efficiency and test coverage.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively across business and technical teams.
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience guiding cross-functional teams in complex retail transformation initiatives.
