Full Time - 37.5 Hours per Week - Term-Time Only - Birchwood School, Cardiff

Are you passionate about helping children and young people reach their full potential? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and confidence to support pupils with additional learning needs and behaviours that challenge? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Birchwood School is looking for a dedicated Positive Behaviour Learning Support Assistant to join our specialist team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our pupils by promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and successful learning outcomes within a nurturing and supportive environment.

About The Role

As a Positive Behaviour Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils, teaching staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. You will provide targeted support to pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional guidance, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

You will play a key role in promoting Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches across the school, helping staff develop effective strategies and ensuring pupils receive the consistent support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to pupils during periods of emotional dysregulation or challenging behaviour, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and dignity at all times.
  • Signing off and quality check radar reports.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, independence, and personal development.
  • Support the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies and individual behaviour plans.
  • Model best practice in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques for colleagues.
  • Coach and mentor staff following observations.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to promote positive outcomes for pupils.
  • Assist in identifying behaviour patterns and contributing to behaviour assessments and support plans.
  • Deliver targeted interventions designed to develop emotional regulation, communication, and social skills.
  • Support staff training and promote a consistent, proactive approach to behaviour support throughout the school.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture where every pupil feels valued and supported.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
