Hope Prevails Preston is a small, community-rooted charity dedicated to ensuring that every individual in Preston affected by domestic abuse is seen, heard, and supported. Since 1994, the organisation has provided free, confidential services led by trained, trauma-responsive professionals who prioritize safety, trust, and survivor choice. Hope Prevails Preston offers prevention and recovery-focused support, including safety planning, practical advice, emotional support, and advocacy for people aged 16 and above, regardless of gender, background, or identity. Guided by survivor-led advocacy and collective action, the charity works to dismantle harmful systems and build pathways to safety, justice, and hope. Its vision is a future where survivors lead change, communities unite against abuse and violence, and every person can live free from fear and oppression.
Role Description
The Positive Futures Practitioner is a full-time, hybrid role based in Preston, Lancashire, focused on supporting individuals affected by domestic abuse to build safe, hopeful futures. In this role, the practitioner provides trauma-responsive, person-centered support through one-to-one sessions, group work, and practical assistance, including safety planning, emotional support, and advocacy with partner agencies. The practitioner collaborates with community services, maintains accurate and confidential records, and contributes to ongoing service development and evaluation. Day-to-day tasks include conducting assessments, developing tailored support plans, signposting and referring individuals to appropriate resources, and participating in multi-agency meetings where needed. The practitioner also supports awareness-raising activities, promotes equitable access to services, and upholds organisational policies around safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport in a trauma-responsive, non-judgmental manner.
- Experience in support work, social care, youth work, advocacy, or related fields, preferably with survivors of domestic abuse or individuals facing complex needs.
- Knowledge of domestic abuse dynamics, safeguarding principles, risk assessment, and person-centered, trauma-informed practice.
- Ability to conduct assessments, develop support plans, maintain detailed case records, and manage a caseload effectively.
- Collaborative skills for working with community partners, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate holistic support.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities, including prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Comfort using basic IT tools and case management systems for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Relevant education or training in social work, psychology, counseling, community development, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
