Postdoctoral Research Associate
The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI) at the Institute for Technology and Humanity are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a research project in trustworthy AI, led by Professor Adrian Weller. This is a fixed-term post where funding is available for two years.
The research project investigates how to develop fundamental theory and methods that enable machine learning systems to be deployed in a trustworthy manner. The project spans human-AI interaction, fairness, transparency, privacy and other approaches to optimising deployed AI systems as human-machine teams. The postdoc will conduct research developing and evaluating methods at the frontier of trustworthy AI, validating them on real-world problems in partnership with domain experts and stakeholders, and publishing and presenting results at leading venues in machine learning (such as NeurIPS, ICML and ICLR), AI ethics and society (such as FAccT and AIES), as well as policy fora.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
