Assistant Poultry Farm Manager
Following the retirement of our long-serving Farm Manager and the promotion of our current Assistant into that role, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Poultry Farm Manager to join our broiler farm near Shobdon, Herefordshire.
Working alongside the Farm Manager, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the farm. As your knowledge and confidence grow, you’ll work alongside the manager as a team with sole responsibility during periods of leave and rest days. This is a varied, hands-on role with genuine long-term career progression within a well-established poultry business.
We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong practical ability, and a genuine commitment to bird welfare. Previous poultry experience and qualifications would be advantageous, but we value the right person and mindset above all else.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the day-to-day management of the broiler farm.
- Maintaining the highest standards of bird welfare, biosecurity, and housekeeping.
- Managing environmental controls, ventilation, feed, and water systems.
- Completing farm records and ensuring Red Tractor and company standards are met.
- Supervising daily farm operations and taking full responsibility for the site when required.
- Assisting with crop turnarounds, maintenance, and continuous improvement projects.
- Working with the wider farming team to maintain high standards across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
