LOCATION: DVLA - Newport
Introduction into the position:
As a Pound Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of a DVLA vehicle pound. You will report to the Area Manager on all aspects of performance, ensuring that staff follow the required procedures for the clamping, removal and disposal of untaxed vehicles.
You will manage a team carrying out enforcement action on untaxed vehicles on behalf of the DVLA, ensuring KPIs are met, compiling returns and liaising with a range of external agencies including the Police, Councils, DVLA and contractors.
What you will be doing:
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the vehicle pound and ensure all operational procedures are followed.
- Manage, organise, motivate, train and coach staff, including carrying out appraisals and supporting staff development.
- Ensure staff are available, appropriately trained and able to fulfil their roles.
- Ensure all Health & Safety procedures and company policies are followed.
- Ensure the DVLA receives a high standard of service and that the pound and its staff meet operational requirements.
- Ensure members of the public are treated fairly, professionally and with good manners at all times.
- Ensure the safe keeping of vehicles held at the pound and deal with complaints and enquiries promptly and responsibly.
- Maintain the security of the pound and make decisions following appropriate investigatory procedures.
- Produce forward operational plans and oversee pound relocation when required, including arranging accommodation and staff expenses.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and audits.
- Produce monthly payroll, manage petty cash reconciliation and complete purchasing requirements.
- Oversee daily schedules, ensure reconciliations are correct and that banking is completed appropriately.

What we are looking for:
- Excellent management and people-management skills, with the ability to organise, motivate, train and coach staff.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Good computer literacy and technical ability, including an understanding of technical equipment.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and remain self-disciplined and organised.
- Personal integrity, honesty and flexibility.
- Management NVQ or equivalent qualification.
- Good computing and account-keeping skills.
- Knowledge or experience of a transport environment.
- Understanding of Health & Safety and employee/employer legislation.
- Knowledge of vehicle excise and duty regulations.
- Knowledge of transport-related matters, particularly drivers' hours and vehicle weights.
- A full driving licence; HGV experience is advantageous.
- An understanding of lifting equipment and procedures would be advantageous.
- Transport Manager CPC qualification is advantageous
