Power Electronics Design Engineer
Newcastle Upon Tyne
Salary range: £40,000-£55,000 DOE + benefits
Jackson Hogg are delighted to be working with a leading business which specialises in power converters for a range of industries such as energy and EV charging. They are looking to bring an experienced engineer to design and develop power converters for these exciting projects.
This is a permanent, full-time role based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- The development, analysis, and validation of design solutions to meet the project requirements using prototyping, simulation, and validation by test techniques.
- Generation of all functional, component, manufacturing, test, and validation specifications.
- Contribute to the delivery of accurate project documentation.
- Support related activities such as drawing and printed circuit board development.
- Liaise with test and production departments during the product introduction process, including design of test rigs.
- Support with the installation and commissioning of equipment at the customers' premises.
- Participate in, and where requested, lead risk mitigation activities including DFMEA and Hazard analysis.

Key Job Requirements:
- Degree in Electronics Engineering (BEng 2:1 or higher) with disciplines in Power.
- Designing of Power Electronic Converters (AC:AC, DC:DC, DC:AC) for powers greater than 10kW.
- Using simulation and design tools like PLECS/CADSTAR.
- Testing and validation of the power converters.
- Creating specifications and Technical Contraction File for the safety approvals.
- Conducting power and EMC testing.
- Design experience with SiC devices.
- Good communication and presentation skills, written and oral.
- Motivated and organized individual who is at ease liaising with customers and suppliers as well as other internal functions within the company.
