🚨 Senior HV Design Engineer | Shropshire | £60k–£70k
I’m currently recruiting for a Senior HV Design Engineer to join an established, high-reliability engineering business based in Shropshire.
This is a genuinely hands-on power electronics design role — ideal for an engineer who enjoys taking a product from an initial requirement all the way through to prototype, testing and production. There is an opportunity to transition
You’ll have the autonomy to make technical decisions and work across the full design lifecycle, including:
- Calculations, modelling & simulation
- Schematic design & component selection
- Transformer and magnetics design
- Prototype build
- Testing & fault finding
- Supporting products through to production

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
🔧 What are they looking for?
Ideally, you’ll have strong experience in:
- Switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) and DC/DC converters
- Isolated topologies — resonant/LLC, flyback, forward & full-bridge
- MOSFET/IGBT power stages and gate drives
- Transformer & magnetics design
- Analogue and digital electronics
- Circuit simulation
- Professional schematic/PCB design packages such as Altium
- Microcontroller/embedded systems experience is a bonus
Direct high-voltage experience would be great, but isn't essential if you have strong, transferable power electronics/SMPS design experience.
Experience within defence, aerospace, nuclear, medical, automotive or other high-reliability environments would also be highly relevant.
💰 What's on offer?
- Shropshire (2 days per week working from home)
- £60,000–£70,000 depending on experience
- Healthcare scheme
- Company pension
- 33 days' holiday including bank holidays
- Christmas shutdown
- Permanent, full-time position
