Power Electronics Engineer – SiC, GaN and Solid-State Transformers
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: Up to £62,000 + relocation paid
KO2's client is a fast-growing technology company developing high-voltage server systems for quantum analytics. They're expanding their hardware team and are looking for a Power Electronics Engineer with wide-bandgap experience to help design their next generation of high-power conversion systems.
You'll design and develop high-power conversion systems rated at 10 kW and above, covering AC-AC, DC-DC and DC-AC platforms. Your work will span simulation and modelling, prototyping, testing and validation, through to supporting certification.
The role focuses on wide-bandgap technology. You'll work with medium- and high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) devices, and you'll help develop solid-state transformer (SST) architectures. You'll have a central part in shaping the company's power hardware as it grows.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
